Tuning out the Negativity

So there’s that person in your life that you have to be around. Maybe a personal relationship, perhaps a professional one ( the negative Nancy at work). All day long they complain about everything and everyone. Woe is me and my life. You are well on your way to bettering your life. you are making conscious effort to rid of the negativity… but what do you do when you can’t get rid of someone who is constantly bringing down your vibe?

I’ve gotten REALLY good at tuning out conversation. This can be both a blessing and a curse… sometimes I catch myself tuning out conversation that I really should be paying attention to so this is still a work in progress for me, but I wanted to share it with you so that you can work on it to because when it comes to Nancy’s complaining this shit comes in handy.

When they get on a roll… I can simply shut off the connection. I don’t shut them down. I don’t ignore them.. which I mean you could definitely do that as well. In my circumstance the ignoring and subject changing really wasn’t working… So when they turn around to me and start the negative tangent I look at them, but withdraw to my principles in my brain. I think about content or lessons that I am creating. I think about the book that I am reading or my happy place and I allow myself to completely zone out while still looking at them and nodding.

You are in complete control of your perception. You allow the energy flow. You control who’s energy you wish to exchange with or not. You control the energy you give and receive. If we constantly let the flow/exchange happen with every single person we come into contact with we can feel run down, tired, or sick. We can feel depression, or overwhelm.

I’m not saying ignore the people you love and care for. Just be conscious of who you are exchanging with.

If you are a parent you should already have some practice in with this exercise. I love my daughter more than life itself, but there’s only so many times you can listen to the same song or movie on repeat. Ya know?

When you try this out let me know how it goes!!
